MAKE SOME NOISE: SINGAPORE NOISE FESTIVAL
13 September 2014

 

To conclude the end of our Singapore Noise The Music Mentorship programme, Afterglow performed a 30min set of mostly originals at the Esplanade Outdoor Theatre to an audience of about 300. Subbing on bass was Jase Sng (Charlie Lim & The Mothership, The Steve McQueens) for Nick Wong who had recently enlisted. To mark their return to the Esplanade Outdoor stage, the band debuted the brand new original Nothing Better, penned by Beth and arranged by the band.

WEEKEND NOISE x SINGAPORE NIGHT FESTIVAL

We performed a 30min set of originals and covers of our influences such as Robert Glasper Experiment, Allen Stone and Gretchen Parlato. Held at 8Q @ SAM, the open-air performance attracted a solid crowd of approximately 100 people who sat and watched the performance from start to finish. Subbing on drums was Shawn Poh for Ting Wei who had recently enlisted.

CineIndieFest
July - August 2014

 

Afterglow took part in Cathay Organisation's inaugaral band competition, CineIndieFest, and came in first runner-up. Upon being one of the 15 shortlisted  Youtube submissions, the band performed at the open auditions with their catchy original One Chance to the semi-finals. After nailing their cover of Unaware - Allen Stone, Afterglow advanced to the finals with five other bands. They played their now signature rendition of Suit & Tie - Justin Timberlake and original Dreamer. They eventually finished in second place at the competition, based solely on judges' votes. The judges included Nathan Hartono, Don Richmond, Clarence Chan, and, for the finals only, Aya Sekine.

JAZZ EDGE: AFTERGLOW

We performed two sets of soul and jazz/hip-hop numbers at the Esplanade Outdoor Theatre. Jazz Edge was the weekend programme for 17-19 January, which featured young local jazz musicians. We performed classics by Jill Scott, Marcus Miller and Bill Withers as well as tunes from rising powerhouses Robert Glasper Experiment and Allen Stone. We also performed two originals: Haters Gon' Hate (music and lyrics by Beth) and One Chance (lyrics by Beth and music by Ting Wei).

FIRST STEPS CARNIVAL

Afterglow performed a half-and-hour's set of soul and funk favourites such as Tell Me Something Good and Just Friends for the First Steps carnival at Marina Barrage, which benefits youth empowerment organisations (left).

3:16 CHRISTMAS PARTY

Afterglow performed for a private Christmas party lunch organised by 3:16 church, held at the cafe, The Basement @ SMU. The two sets comprised standard Afterglow funk and soul repertoire (e.g. Free - Marcus Miller ft Corrine Bailey Rae, Unaware - Allen Stone) as well as pop (e.g. Titanium - David Guetta ft Sia) and Christian music requests (e.g. Majesty)

SPARK CHRISTMAS EVENT AT RAFFLES CITY

We brought Christmas joy to shoppers at Raffles City with an hour of Christmas carols such as Jingle Bell Rock, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, Silent Night and O Come All Ye Faithful and jazz favourites such as Honeysuckle Rose, What a Difference a Day Makes, Body and Soul and If I Were a Bell at the Trafalgar stage, next to Kate Spade.

WEDDING CEREMONY AND DINNER AT ONE ROCHESTER

We played three forty-five minute sets comprising Jazz, Bossanova and pop requests from our happy Singaporean-Korean couple. We also played the wedding march in the style of bossanova and the song Turning page by Sleeping At Last, featured below, for their re-entrance.

AFTERGLOW AT TIMBRE @ THE SUBSTATION (then known as Junk)
5 JULY 2014

 

Invited by Timbre CEO, Danny Loong, we played a forty-five minute set of blues, soul and funk before house band Raw Earth's set at Timbre @ The Substation. We also jammed classics such as Everyday I Have the Blues and Superstition with Raw Earth.

SAVOUR FOOD FESTIVAL
30 MARCH - 1 APRIL 2012

 

We performed three sets jazz and bossanova standards for our client, Veuve Cliquot, at their booth on each of the three days.
